RIP Macho Man Randy Savage

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Sad to hear Macho Man passed away in a car accident yesterday. I’ve not watched the WWF since I was a lil fella, but was a fan back in the day. Peace out big guy.

Gotta make my mind up

Friday, May 20th, 2011

I wanted to have a play around with my quill pens and ink again, though its been a loooong time. So long in fact the ink had separated into a solid on the bottom, and watery layer on top. I thought I might be able to bring it back with some vigorous shaking, but to no avail. I used to enjoy inking with quills so I think I’ll go pick up some new fresh ink soon.

Latest Piece – Finn’s Painting

Finn's Painting

Its been sometime since I painted anything, and even longer since I was since I was commissioned to do this piece for a friend’s son. I’d finally cleared up some time in my schedule and got to finish this one up last week. It was great fun and I really hope to do more tangible painting soon, much nicer to touch a finished piece than to stare at it on a screen.

Indian Film Festival 2011 – Bollywood and Beyond

Saturday, February 19th, 2011

Last month I was asked to create a 30 and 45 second commercial for the upcoming Indian Film Festival in Australia and New Zealand, and it needed to feature a lot of famous Bollywood faces. It was a fun project to work on (I find a lot of the shorter ones are) and I’m pretty happy with the results.

Flick Buddies: Crazy multiplayer action for iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Its been 3 secretive months in the making but today I get to announce what I’ve been working on with my good friends from Bane Games. Its an action packed multiplayer game (1-4 people on a single device!) for the iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch. It will be available from 15 December but to whet your appetite, we’ve released some screenshots and our first trailer.

We wanted to make something fun that people could pick up and enjoy immediately, while also having a level of depth to it so those who spend time mastering it are rewarded. Its intended as a multiplayer game where you sit down with a group of friends and all fight it out on the same screen. It can get pretty chaotic with 4 people playing at once, and a lot of fun! With me being in charge of the art, I wanted to make sure it looked  its best and I had free reign over the design of the characters, backgrounds and logo. Its all me so I really hope you like it!

I’d love to hear what you all think of the trailer, and it’d be great to see you all follow us over at Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date with our progress. Theres going to be more free levels and teams to come in updates so make sure you’re the first one to know. I’d also be hugely appreciative if you’d share those Facebook and YouTube links with your friends as we’d love to see our game in the top ten iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch lists!!

iPad/iPhone announcement only days away

The Team

Over the past few months I’d teamed up with a couple of good mates who I used to work with (Bane Games), to put our heads together and come up with an iPad/iPhone game. We’ve had a lot of fun and are really happy with how its all come together. Its been a nice change having such freedom on a project and I was lucky enough to have free reign with the art. While I can’t say much more before its announced, I can say if you like my art and what I’ve been drawing recently, then you should like this. Stay tuned for more updates this week!

Oh and if you don’t have an iPad/iPhone, go get one!!

Kidney stones mean hospital

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Its been a while since I’ve updated here, but I’ve got a pretty valid excuse for the last week or two. 12 days ago I visited the doc and was prescribed some antibiotics for what was thought to be a bladder infection, but this time 7 days ago I was in hospital after severe abdomen pain sent me to the Emergency room. After some scans, and thankfully pain killers, it turned out I had kidney stones (quite surprising as I’ve quit drinking alcohol months ago and thought I drank plenty of water). I had an op to remove as much of them as possible on Monday and have spent the rest of the week in bed, either in hospital or home. Things are improving now and with two more procedures scheduled for this week, I hope to be back to normal by Friday. I’ve been aching to get some art done, but haven’t been able to manage much time sitting up without getting sore (I still have whats called a “stent” in between my kidney n bladder to help drain out any remaining bits of the stones after they blasted them), or super tired.

Thankfully I’d downloaded an awesome app for my iphone called Autodesk SketchBook Mobile which I hadn’t really found much of an excuse to play with, until now. Now I’d planned on spending some time on a few pics before uploading my first 5 images to show what I’ve been able to create with it, but I’d only completed one pic before I ended up in hospital. I was feeling pretty bad for neglecting this blog so I figured I’d upload this pic now, and throw a few more up at a later stage. I whipped this up in about 2-3 hours (across 2 lethargic days in bed).

Hospital time

I’d seen some drawing apps on a mates iphone, but never thought I’d be able to access such a large amount of features that I’m used to in Photoshop, from my phone.  I will endeavor to do a more in depth tutorial of the app later on. For now though, I can say that I highly recommend the app if you’re an artist, and would love to see what you all come up with.

I also just noticed theres a flickr group here if you want to see what people are creating with it – Autodesk Sketchbook Mobile Flickr Group

Farmer squid spots some babies!

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

I’ve got a mini farmer squid tending to my veggie patch out on the balcony, and he was pretty excited to show me the first little strawberries of the year are starting to grow. Its the first time I’ve tried growing strawberries, so I’m pretty happy to see those little fellas sprouting already. Has anyone else grown these before? Got any tips?

Alibi Room

Monday, July 5th, 2010

After having spent the last few months behind my computer screen animating, I jumped at the chance to do some actual painting today at a local bar (the Alibi Room, New Farm). Now I know I’ve got a long way to go with using aerosols, but I figured this space was a pretty good one to try my hand at them again. The colours that flow out of a can (I was using Ironlak and Kingz Cans paint today) seem to be some much more intense and vibrant than anything that comes from a tube. The down side was that my wrist really didn’t enjoy it. I’ve been battling tendonitis in my right wrist since Christmas (probably a lot longer really) and today really gave it a beating. I was pretty happy with how it all turned out and I look forward to playing around with cans some more, just as soon as my wrist permits it.
